High Sierra Energy Summit
Through a partnership with The Town of Mammoth Lakes and Southern California Edison and in collaboration with Cerro Coso Community College, the Foundation has produced its second High Sierra Energy Summit in Mammoth Lakes. The Summit is a weeklong series of workshops and courses focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy resources.
LivingWise® Program
The Eastern Sierra Energy Initiative, A Multi-Agency Local Energy Partnership Encompassing the Town of Mammoth Lakes, the City of Bishop and the Counties of Inyo and Mono. and Southern California Edison and managed by the High Sierra Energy Foundation, each year partners with the Mammoth Community Water District to implement the LivingWise® program at Mammoth Middle School. The program is an energy and water efficiency program that supplements the California 6th grade earth science curriculum.
The LivingWise® Program has been a huge success. Students are introduced to water efficiency, given a LivingWise® kit, and their curriculum is enhanced by numerous projects and field trips, such as; measuring the amount of light given off by a CFL, a solar cooking contest, participation in Earth Day events, measuring the flow of the student’s showerhead, and a field trip to the water treatment processing plant.
“The LivingWise® Program was a terrific way for my students to see how individuals can make a difference in using less energy and water…”
Gil Campos, 6th Grade Earth Science Teacher, Mammoth Middle School
